How does a wedding sketch work?
What is a wedding invitation sketch and how does it work? Thatβs what weβre going to go over in todayβs blog post.
RELATED: What is the custom stationery process like?
As a custom wedding stationer, there are many steps to the process of creating invitations so that we end up with the perfect wedding paper for you. Once weβve had our consult call and you have filled out your questionnaire, itβs time for me to create the sketch.
What is a wedding invitation sketch? Itβs a rough sketch that I draw up which goes over the size and layout of your wedding cards, where the wording and artwork would go, the color palette, and how any embellishments would come into play. Sometimes the sketch is in color but youβll mostly see it in black and white. It is a guide so that we are all on the same page. You get to see what I have in mind before I create any custom work.
Now that weβve talked about what a wedding sketch is, letβs go over what it is NOT. A wedding sketch is not something to get bogged down on. It is a very rough, black and white, preliminary sketch that I create just so that we are all on the same page. It doesnβt mean small things canβt change later on but if you donβt like the layout of the paper (meaning vertical or horizontal), or where your names would go, or you want the watercolor venue to be your liner and not on the Details card, this is when we would change that. We ideally want to create only one sketch, receive your feedback, and then move on to creating all of the artwork.
Why have a sketch? This helps make the process smoother and faster. Even though it is one extra step, it can save us many steps down the road. From the sketch, we learn what calligraphy and artwork to create for your final invitations and therefore we donβt have to go back and forth on those pieces that take longer to make.
